Healthy Ageing with balanced Nutrition

Nutrition as we age

It is never too early to begin thinking about a healthy diet and healthy ageing – and people at all ages are increasingly aware of this fact. We offer functional ingredients and innovative product concepts that support healthy lifestyles at every life stage.

From prebiotic fibres, via toothfriendly and low-glycaemic carbohydrates to hypoallergenic rice ingredients for great taste and texture – our ingredients have one thing in common: Healthy nutrition that enables healthy ageing.

Caring for the youngest

Healthy aging starts at the very beginning. Answering to babies’ needs with BENEO specialty rice ingredients. Baby food is characterised by high quality and regulatory requirements. As rice is easy to digest, BENEO has dedicated several of its ingredients specifically for the development of infant nutrition. Our ingredients are all naturally sourced and exceed industry expectations by qualifying for hypoallergenic, clean-label, organic and non-GMO products.

Child-friendlier sweets with Palatinose™.  Up to now, the only toothfriendly options have been sugar replacers (polyols); sugar needed to be replaced cup-by-cup. With Palatinose™, a fully digestible alternative for children’s confectionery is now available: a sugar that is kind to teeth! Thanks to its nature, PalatinoseTM releases its energy more slowly than traditional sugar, providing children (and adults) with a more balanced energy for longer.

“Healthy flora with BENEO Functional Fibres. Babies are born with a ‘sterile’ gut; the colonization of their flora with microbes is playing an important role in many aspects of babies’ health. The healthy gastrointestinal microbiota of breastfed babies (gold standard) is composed to a large extent of Bifidobacteria. This is because breast milk naturally contains a high amount of prebiotic non-digestible carbohydrates.  These non-digestible carbohydrates make the stool of babies very soft to liquid in its structure. Adding our prebiotic non-digestible carbohydrates to infant formulae, allows to come closer to the microbiota composition of breastfed babies (by increasing Bifidobacteria). Also stool structure becomes softer compared to non-prebiotic formula and closer to breast fed children.

Keep teeth healthy

Keep teeth healthy

Dental cavities develop when bacteria convert fermentable carbohydrates like sucrose or starches into acids that attack the tooth enamel.

BENEO functional carbohydrates can scarcely be fermented by oral-micro-organisms, thus preventing critical acid production. (see pH telemetry graph on the right side)

Numerous clinical trials have demonstrated that pH-levels always remain above the critical level of 5.7 after consuming Isomalt or PalatinoseTM. Furthermore, Isomalt reduces plaque formation and has a remineralising effect which promotes the repair of incipient cavities.

The toothfriendliness of Palatinose™ and Isomalt has been accepted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with a corresponding health claim in the Code of Federal Regulations. It is also an approved health claim within the European Union. Both BENEO ingredients hold a toothfriendly certificate (check PalatinoseTM certificate and Isomalt certificate).

With a range of specialty sugar grades BENEO enables you to include PalatinoseTM in all different kinds of food and beverage products.

Increase calcium absorption

Increase calcium absorption

A sufficient intake and absorption of calcium already at an early age can prevent osteoporosis or delay its onset later in life. However, only about 30 percent of ingested calcium is usually fully absorbed by the body.

BENEO offers the possibility to develop products that can build stronger bones. The bacterial fermentation of our fibres that are naturally extracted from chicory increases the absorption capacity for calcium by extending the absorption capacity to the large intestine. Healthy aging starts with strong bones.

The Oligofructose-enriched Inulin Orafti® Synergy1 with its designated chain length pattern has been found to be particularly efficient in enhancing the bioavailability of calcium in the diet and support calcium absorption – an important prerequisite for lifelong bone health.

Support weight management

Obesity is affecting more and more people all over the world. Long-term, negative health effects include type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and many more. Reduce calories, burn body fat and control food intake long term! With prebiotic fibres, functional carbohydrates and healthy rice-based texturizing ingredients, BENEO offers a number of answers to the global health challenge of obesity. Our ingredients help in weight management.

Effect of oligofructose on energy intake

Sugar in blood – less is more

sugar in blood

High-glycaemic diets combined with a disproportional daily calorie intake are related to non-communicable diseases, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
The health relevance of lower glycaemic nutrition is strongly gaining traction among the general public. Consumers are starting to actively look for products that help them to keep their blood glucose on a lower and more balanced level. Our ingredients help in blood sugar management.

Contribute to digestive health

From an early age up to the mature stages of life – a good digestion is vital for an overall wellbeing. It enables our bodies to absorb all the necessary nutrients to run smoothly – and to remain healthy.

A healthy digestive system in turn requires sufficient dietary fibre intake.

BENEO offers prebiotic dietary fibres extracted from the chicory root which can contribute to an overall healthier digestive system and overall wellbeing. BENEO’s physiological data on inulin and oligofructose are based on more than 20 years of extensive academic research resulting in hundreds of publications.

BENEO prebiotic fibres do not only contribute to a better regulated transit and a higher stool frequency but also offer a prebiotic effect. Our prebiotic fibres contribute to digestive health.
